Evan Bowen

Evan Bowen (they/them) is an award-winning filmmaker based out of the DC/Baltimore area. They have worked for the past 7 years as an independent filmmaker across different roles and their work primarily focuses on community, whether that is community through art, identity or hobby.

Their most recent role is with the Film and Video Studies program at George Mason University as the Post-Production Coordinator. They joined GMU in 2021 and their duties include managing all the post-production labs, planning lab budgets and upgrades, maintaining the film archive, handling film festival print traffic and assisting in program events. Their work at Mason was wide-reaching and was essential in helping many students succeed in learning and creating films with the program.

Evan has collaborated with DC-based indie rock band Grimm Winter on various video projects, including the music video for their single Ferryman of their debut EP Sojourn. Evan made their feature debut working as the script supervisor on the film Ape Canyon and most recently they were an assistant director on Connection | Isolation, releasing in 2024.

In November 2018, Evan participated in the Stevenson University 72 hour film festival to produce Chesstern, which went on to win the audience award. Chesstern was submitted to the Stevenson University FMI Awards in April of 2019 and was awarded Best Narrative and Best Picture. Evan has worked on other various short films, including Marge Noir, Panoply, 8 Minutes and Memento Mori. They have also freelanced on various commercial shoots, including for Nissan, the Emahoy Tesge Mariam Music Foundation, and MUFON. For their senior thesis project, Evan wrote and shot the experimental short film The Flimsy Line Between Fantasy and Reality or Subconscious for Short.

Evan recently was a Digital Content Services Technician for Discovery Communications, where they worked on the back end of the broadcast chain to ensure media properly made it to air. In the spring of 2018, Evan was a content production intern at Maryland Public Television in Owings Mills, MD. While enrolled at Stevenson University, Evan was a Sports Video Broadcaster for the Athletics Department and a Studio Assistant for the School of Design. They graduated Stevenson University with a BS in Film and Moving Image in the spring of 2019.
